California Maternity, Family, and Brand Photographer — San Anselmo — Marin County
Nothing tells the story of family like a cozy in home photography session. I’ve always loved in home sessions, but I’ve been leaning into them even more post-pandemic. There is something special about documenting families in their element.
In home family photo sessions have a natural flow to them. It often feels more like a playdate than a photography session. We take breaks as needed for snacks or when someone needs to be consoled. We wander around the house and kids are excited to share their space and show off their favorite things. These family photo sessions are fun and low stress. The sweetest shots are often captured in the most unexpected locations. Like this little guy peeking out from his hiding place under Mom and Dad’s bed.
I rarely ask kids or parents to look at the camera. More often I will prompt interactions between family members. The most common concern I hear from clients during the booking consultation is that they feel they are not photogenic or don’t look like themselves in photos. Often the real problem is that they aren’t comfortable staring at the camera with a fake smile and the person they see in those photos looks unfamiliar. Lifestyle posing is a great solution to this problem. It’s flattering, more comfortable, and leads to natural looking results.
I absolutely loved spending time with this family. I hope they will enjoy these memories and be able to relive this time in their lives through these photos.
This session was shot on medium format Portra400 film and developed and scanned by The Find Lab. If you’d like to check out another at home family session, you can do so HERE. If you’d like to find out more about family photography sessions, you can pick a time for a quick call here.
